Welcome to Digital Media!
I've designed this website for parents, students, and administrators to view the course content and understand the instructional goals of the class. Students should leave this course with the ability to better communicate ideas through video and possess the 21st Century skills needed to succeed in life. Should you need to reach out to me, please email me at [email protected].
Course Summary
The goal of this course is to provide students with opportunities to utilize a variety of 21st-Century skills by engaging them in activities that will enhance their communication with audiences. The class involves a variety of projects that will allow students to create media, learning how to craft messages so they can better communicate with the world around them. Additionally, this class focuses heavily on video production skills that will incorporate cooperative grouping, planning, research, teamwork, writing, and visual literacy. By using higher order thinking activities, students will learn not only work ethic, but also application of life skills that can translate to a real-world working environment.
Instructional Modifications:
My goal is for all students to understand the course content, perform to the best of their abilities and succeed. The modifications I most often use to accommodate learners include:
Verbal Instruction
Modeled Instruction
Guided Practice
More Time As needed to complete tasks
Students Paired for Support
Group work for collaboration in order to build upon skills
**Important** If you have any concerns about your child or they express difficulty with the content, please encourage them to make an appointment to see me before school or after school for extra help.
Assessments
Assessments are the way a teacher knows a student is able to demonstrate understanding of the task and daily objective.
Most of my Formative Assessments take place in the following ways:
-Daily Benchmarks of Projects (Participation) which is often one step of the final "RUBRIC" which is the culminating project grade or this also can be based on how the student demonstrates their work ethic in their project when editing or participating in class activities.
-Participation: which usually is graded based upon student in class activities, in class assignments or participation in discussion or in edits.
-Homework: which is usually found on the homework blog or is a completion of a task asked of a student which helps to demonstrate understanding of a concept.
-Quizzes / Tests: I test the student's understanding of the learned concept to ensure they are able to build upon a particular skill.
My Summative Assessment (the Midterm or Final) take place in the form of a Final Exam Video Project where students are expected to complete a Final Video that demonstrates all the skills taught in the class in one final project (scriptwriting, filming, editing, graphics, composition, sequencing, story boarding, and sharing the media digitally).
Grading Breakdown:
Participation is 20%
Homework is 20%
Quizzes/Test are 30%
Projects are 30%
Please contact me at [email protected] should you have any questions regarding what your child's grade. Please be pro-active and help your child succeed by monitoring Genesis. I often put notes if points are deducted as to why (often, the work is submitted late). *****Please check the parental comments in Genesis. I often leave you feedback about the assignment in the parental comments***

*About Me:
Mrs. LazarskiA Little About Me:
I have worked in the TV industry in various roles since college. I started out as a Production Assistant, but worked my way up becoming a 2nd Associate Director and Technical Production Coordinator, then onto a Stage Manager and Associate Director. Most recently I worked for Tru TV (formerly Court TV), but previous to that I worked freelance for MTV, FUSE, Food Network, CSTV, NHL Hockey, College Basketball, and PGA. I worked full-time for MSNBC, The Maury Show, and Fox Sports Net. What I love about TV Production is that it is both a creative and technical industry. And the reason I decided to teach it is because I have always wanted to combine my two passions, teaching and television. Teaching Digital Media makes for a very rewarding career since I get to teach what I love to do! I am currently in school for my Masters in Educational Technology at Boise State University. I also love to spend time with my husband, 5 year old daughter and 16 month old son. I look forward to sharing my experience with you and hopefully you'll find learning about Digital Media as interesting as I did!
